How to Download QBO File from TD Bank

By SimpleBankConvertPublished October 17, 2026

To download a QBO file from TD Bank, sign in to TD online banking on a computer, open the account's activity, choose the download option, pick the QuickBooks file type and a date range, and save the .qbo file. TD sets how many months the download covers. Older months come from your PDF statements, which reach back years further.

The TD Bank download link sits with the account's transaction history in online banking. TD's online banking page says you can download account information directly to Quicken or QuickBooks, so the option exists. Its exact label and position on the page can change, so look near the activity list.

The usual path looks like this:

  1. Sign in to TD online banking in a desktop browser.
  2. Select the account, for example business checking.
  3. Open its activity or transaction history.
  4. Choose the download or export option.
  5. Pick the QuickBooks file type, set the dates, and download.
  6. Rename the saved file so it shows the account and the month, like td-checking-2026-05.qbo.

Do one account per file. A TD checking account and a TD card each belong in their own QuickBooks account, and mixing them makes the balances wrong in two places at once.

Picking the TD Bank file type: QuickBooks, Quicken or spreadsheet

The TD Bank file type to pick for QuickBooks is the QuickBooks one, which saves a file ending in .qbo. Quicken files end in .qfx, and the two look alike on a download form. The difference matters most if you use QuickBooks Desktop, where Web Connect reads only .qbo files.

File type (labels vary) Ending Use it for
QuickBooks .qbo QuickBooks Online or Desktop
Quicken .qfx Quicken only
Spreadsheet .csv Checking lines in Excel, or Xero

Intuit's article on downloading bank feed transactions in QuickBooks Desktop confirms the Desktop rule: QFX and QIF exports from a bank won't import through Web Connect. QuickBooks Online is less strict and accepts a CSV too, but you then match the columns by hand.

How many months back does a TD Bank download go?

A TD Bank download reaches back as far as TD makes recent activity available for export, which is far shorter than its statement archive. The bank doesn't promise a fixed number of months for the export on the page above. Test it by requesting a long range and reading the earliest date in the file.

Intuit notes that when a bank doesn't let you choose dates, the first download brings the bank's maximum, which may be 30, 60, 90 days or more depending on the bank. So start your request on the day after the last transaction already in QuickBooks, and check what came back rather than assuming.

If the earliest date is later than you asked for, everything before it needs another source. Write that date down. It becomes your cutover: converted statements before it, downloads from it onward.

TD Bank check images the QBO file leaves out

A TD Bank QBO file holds the check number and amount, but not the picture of the check or the name written on it. A QBO file carries transaction data only, so the payee on a cleared check often shows up as just "CHECK 1042". You fill in the payee yourself when you categorise the line in QuickBooks.

Check images live in online banking and sometimes inside the PDF statement. If you need the payee for many checks, open the images there and note the names before you categorise. The guide to check images in PDF bank statements explains what those pages hold and why a converter skips them.

Deposits with several checks can behave the same way. The file usually shows one deposit total, not each check inside it, so match it to the deposit you recorded rather than looking for separate lines.

TD Bank statements for months before the download window

TD Bank statements go back much further than the download. TD's online banking page says you can review up to 7 years of statements and notices, and that online statements issued on or after April 2010 are available. Those PDFs are the source for any month the QBO file can't reach.

QuickBooks Online's manual upload can read a PDF statement for you to review, but QuickBooks Desktop needs each one converted into a .qbo file first. SimpleBankConvert is being built for that conversion, turning a digital PDF into a CSV or QBO file. Accounts aren't open yet, and you can join the list to hear when they are.

Download each statement as the bank's own PDF rather than printing and scanning it. A downloaded PDF holds real text, so nothing has to be guessed.

If you also bank elsewhere, the steps are close but the limits differ. See how to download a QBO file from Navy Federal, which also covers its CSV route for Xero, and how to download a QBO file from Truist, which explains what to try when a download comes out empty.
